just work with the adjusters on the throttle cables. slip the boot off the cables and you can undo the locknut and turn the barrel nut to adjust to your liking. it's best to leave a little slack there though like the other guys mentioned.

Thanks for the post guys. 
I just got done changing out my grips and thought I had a lot of extra play in the throttle (I marked the threads with a marker to get back to the original tension) so I tightened it up a little. That part of turning the bars full right really came into play here. I went back out, turned the bars full right, open the throttle all the way it released it. It didn't come back so I had to put a little slack back in there. That could have been ugly.

I like a little more freeplay in the throttle for when using the cruise control. If too tight you will feel the grip try to turn when the cruise tries to accelerate and when decelerating you may hold the throttle open and then not maintaining your speed. With some slack there is room for the cruise to work and not transmit through the grip.
