It seems that a 96 Road King is least liked in the market world.
I am having a tough time looking for a SOLO LUGGAGE RACK!
I am going with a Corbin Solo seat and a Pillion and I would like to find a solo rack.
I have looked everywhere and it seems if it isn't a 97-up, it is not available.
Any ideas??????

I think I have a solo rack I used on my '96 RK stored in my attic. I modified it slightly for use with a vintage Tour Pak and it isn't in perfect shape, but it should be usable if I still have it. I'll see if I can find it later today, as I never throw anything like that away. It was originally used with a fabric case that fit neatly on it, but I'm certain I sold the case on Ebay years ago. I definitely sold the Tour Pak after trading the bike in.
The rack will require a docking kit, and I don't know if these are available anymore. Attached is a photo of the bike with the Tour Pak in place, but you can't see the rack very well. That's a Corbin solo seat with backrest on the bike, too, probably like yours. BTW I think you'd have to remove the pillion when using the rack, as I doubt if there would be enough clearance under there.
Edit: Can't find it in attic but will keep looking. Don't get your hopes up, as it's possible I gave it to the next owner.
pretty sure that the one for the 97 up will work even thought the frame is different on your bike. ive got the harley detachable solo rack. i used it on my 98rk and my 06rk. it uses the same exact docking points that the detachable tourpak uses.
ive got a good friend that has an 94 police road king. he uses the exact rack that i have and the same tourpak and so forth. not sure why harley lists them as being different but they do.
i think motherwell(?) or some company makes a neat solo rack on the cheap price. it slides on at the front where the back seat would mount behind the front seat. and then attaches at the rear where the rear sinnle center seat bolt is. they look pretty good as well.
53519-95 is the part number for the harley detachable solo rack. so, that does show that it fits the older models, even back to 92. i dont have a pic right now.
i do not see it in the 2010 catalog. it is in my old 2001 catalog however. real beefy, strong detachable rack.
thanks everyone, I guess iclick cannot find his I may purchase a 98 and try it, if that doesn't work I will have to go like Eric did and make one.....
I'm totally brain-dead about what I did with that rack, but I don't see it around here anymore. I would keep an eye out on Ebay for a while, as you never know what will turn up there. I just did a search on Harley solo rack -xl -sportster -dyna -softail and it didn't turn up anything for that genre.
OTOH Head gave us valuable info with that part number. Do a Google search and you'll get some hits, including these from parties that may have the part:
I have a 96 EGC and the rack I have on with my Mustang solo seat is from a 97 and it fits perfectly.
look great. thats the rack that i was talking about earlier that i have seen. those are easy to mount/unmount and wont hit the wallet as hard as the harley detachable will. but it also depends on how much gear you would be hauling on that rack as far as deciding on which one to run.
