Still looking for a touring bike. I found a 2006 Electra Glide at a good price, and test rode it yesterday. I have not ridden a Harley in years, so it may be common, but it had a lot of vibration you could feel in the floorboards.
My wife rode it with me and she even said something about it before I even mentioned it. She could feel it in the passenger boards.
Is this common in that year and model?
Just to give some background, I ride a Yamaha Royal Star 1300 now.
I have a 95 flstn and the floor boards have the Harley shake which at first I thought oh my how does any bolt stay on one of these? You get used to it or you can get boards with isolators to reduce the vibration.

I don't have experience about the older HD models, but my ultra limited 2010 is so smooth that I can't even believe. I've traded in my Royal Star tour deluxe, and I've thought that the V4 should be smoother, but it is the oppposite. Of course, the HD will vibrate at the iddle (stop), but even 90 MPH, it's still moving so smooth.
My floorboard is rubber mounted, and I don't know what is the one that you are testing.
Happy shopping!
Nick
It will disappear, right now your too focused on a lot of things new to you.Remember your riding a 72 degree V-Twin with big bore and long stroke,it's the nature of the beast.
Harley Touring bikes eat front motor mounts! Just replace both on my bikes and my 2004 Road King has only 14K on it and the mount was totaly destroyed! It makes one hell of a vibration especially thru the floor boards.
try replacing the rubber inserts, being 5 yo they are surely dried out and have become harder rubber. I did that on my 99 after 3 years and couldnt believe the difference. I went fron the original ones to the one with the chrome insert imbedded in it. Major improvement.
