First of all riding is obviously my priority or I wouldn't be asking this question after just getting back from 11 days on the road. The point is if you can have your bike looking good (while out on the road) without too much work, why not do it? These guys I saw cleaning their bikes out on the road were only spending a few minutes spraying on whatever product they were using and wiping off. The bikes looked great and they were back to riding.
So that's what I'm looking for is something fairly easy to do while out on the road to keep the bike looking good. Thanks.

I never wash the bike on a road trip. Hand wash and wax it before I leave. (Easy to inspect it as I'm cleaning it.) The next time my bike will see a wash is a day or two after I get back from the road trip. Washing it after I get back serves two purposes.
1. All the bugs and crap from the rain (never fails, if I go on a road trip it is going to rain) bring back the pleasant memories of the ride.
2. Hand washing it again I can do an inspection and make sure everything is still in good working order and nothing has worked loose.

Warm the bike up until pipes are warm enough to touch but too hot to burn yourself and use Mothers Mag Cleaner, the kind that comes in a jar (like cold cream) put a little bit on a rag and a little rubbing and it will remove any stain.. IE... bugs, tar, rubber sole boot marks. It will remove almost anything. But you have to keep the pipes fairly hot for this to work with hardly any effort. Been doing this for over 20 years and it works slick
+1 on the plexus. i clean my bike up about once a month. i spent 6.5hrs on it this past sat for a show on sunday. wash, clay bar, cleaner wax, polish, carnuba wax. neverdull on the chrome and windex with amonia for the caked on bugs and road grime(on chrome) i got caught in the rain last night on my way home and i though for sure it would look like ****. nothing but a few spots on the head light. it all streaked off and didnt even leave any spots on the paint. if im gona take a trip, it wont get washed until a few days after i get home. i keep a can of plexus and a microfiber in the bag for the windshield, but thats it.
