DPete.....Thanks for starting this thread....I feel like an *** because I overlooked the fuel filter at 25k....Man! don't know how I did that....I follow a maint sheet from the local HD shop (check off type) which I use for each 5k etc. Sure going to compare there sheet to the maint-service manual sheet....Thanks again...
i recently decided i would change my fuel filter for my 08 rk with 54000 mi. asked for one at the dealership and was told by the parts salesman that if my bike was running good not to worry about changing my filter. (warning bells should have been sounding in my head) so i didn't buy one. 2 days later my filter clogged up and bike wouldn't run. just saying don't always rely on what the parts dept. tells you

Most of the Parts personnel are young and don't work on their own. Ask the next time what Harley they own and how long they have been riding. I have found there are some that don't even ride. The just work behind the counter. Those ones, I have found don't know much about the part's catalog or what the parts are for. They are just sales personnel.
Here is a picture of the Dirty....Dirty....filter that came out of my 09 RKC with 37.7k...Nice to have a piece of an repair shop (silent partner) when you need to do things....The special tank tool makes it easy but a screwdriver can work also.
When you changed it.... did you notice the top plate being out of round were the fuel filter housing fits???? Could be a HD problem down the road..

2 things that get overlooked in routine service intervals by the dealer but are still considered part of the cost are the fuel filter change at 25k and the pivot pin kit on the 08 and later brake lever. Then, how many folks flush their brake systems every two years per the manual?
