Default LED Gauge lights

I have tried to change my gauge lights, to blue from the stock ones,
I changed to the blue 194 bulb, but the light was so weak you couldn't see the color unless it was total darkness.
I am looking at purchasing superbright LED 194 in Blue, has anybody else done this?
or should I just save my money.
Oh by the way, I have the old style black background on my gauges.
As usual all comments are welcome.

I've since sent my lights to have a LED light placed into the TACH and SPEEDO, works great!
the other's were easy, went to supergrightled to get the right bulb.
Cost $150 including installation into the fairing.

If you go to superbrightled's website, you'll find the following specs:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...2FcompWLED.htm

Looks like the WLED-x5 (three versions of white) provide from 10-12 lumens. The WLED-WHP5 (white) provides 40 lumens. I haven't personally compared the two LED's, but the difference in lumens is substantial. I have the WLED-RHP5 (red) led's in my small spun aluminum gauges and they're a huge improvement over the OEM bulbs.

I have the spun aluminum guages. I had Marty change the speedo and tach to white. They look great. The hard part it finding the right/same white for the smaller guages.

I went to the LED site and noticed that some of the LED's are polarized and others are not. Do you or anyone else know what the difference is and which one should be used in our gauges? Is a load equalizer needed?

I took all of the incadecent lamps out of my light bar and experimented with LED's. set up arrays and brightness with resistors for balance so they were al the same, I imagine it would be the same doing gages and dash lights when converting to LEd's.

No, a load equalizer isn't needed. As for which "should" be used, can't say other than the X(color letter: R=red, W=white, etc.)HP5's are used in a lot of bikes, mine included. They're easy to install; just plug the LED into the socket and, if it lights, it's correct and if it doesn't, rotate it 180 degrees and reinsert it.

Marty just did my gauges (I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago, and I posted pics in that thread). Here's the exact LEDs I used for the 4 smaller gauges: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b.../WLED-xHP5.htm I went with blue, but they have a lot of different colors.

Make sure to get the xHP5 version...they are the brighter ones. They fit either way into the socket, but only work one way (if it doesn't work, unplug and rotate 180 degrees and reinsert). Oh, buy at least one extra...shipping is the same, and it sucks when you get one bad one and have to reorder and pay for shipping again.

here is the direct link to the small gauge led's

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...-x5.htm#photos

My bike being a '10 (not saure when it started) he was able to make the needles a different color and also the odometer can be wahtever you want.

Most definately one on my favorite winter mods.

More pics!

Thanks, I remember the photos. And I was curious if you used the brighter ones. Appreciate it.
