I always suggest looking at the last thing done to the bike as suspect.
ding-ding-ding...winner! I removed the digital guard dog starter relay and replaced it with the original starter relay and the bike fired right up. that DGD has given me more trouble it seems than it's worth. I have no idea how the FOB became out of sink - but screw it!
HD does not make security for my bike (2000 RKC) so I went with the DGD rather than something more expensive like Scorpio or??? Now I will just lock the ignition on quick trips into the gas station or use my ABUS disc lock for longer periods away from the bike.
