I replaced the HD stock shifter rod with a overpriced Kuryakyn one, only to replace the ends because of rattling. Now the other day I pull into the driveway, downshift and the end breaks off, thank God leaving me broken down in the driveway..... only had to push it into the garage...... not too bad... LOL.
The rod broke off the threads ( trans. side ) leaving it worthless, the ends are still good.
What shifter rod as the fewest problems or complaints ??? The above Kuryakyn has less than 3K on it, never mis-used and no rust.
Harley makes a billet chromed unit. I bought the Harley-Davidson script unit. The ends, or heim joints are quality. Ive had mine for two years with no issues, still tight, work great.
But the ends are always the weak point on most of these units.
Just get an appropriate length of stainless steel rod; polish it, cut the threads, add two lock nuts and screw it into your heim joints.
Adjust it to the correct length and install it.
