Tachometer not working

Tachometer not working
Helping a friend with a 2005 Deluxe who's tach is not working. I posted on the Softail forum with no response. I searched and looked in the SM with no results.
What could be the possible causes? A sensor? A fuse? How could I trouble shoot this?

I'm assuming it's an aftermarket tach? If so, does it light up? If not, it's likely gotten a short somewhere and blown the fuse that it taps in to for power or a bad ground connection.
If it does light up, I think it would most likely be the signal wire. I'd bet the ecm is still sending the signal and that it would be a bad wire or connection.

I don't have the bike here to look at he's bring it over in the next couple of days. As I recall its a Harley tach mounted near the risers. I will check for fuse, bad ground, etc. Thanks.

Yeah, the other option is the speedo/tach combo unit. If it's the same as the '07, there will be 3 wires. Orange/white is +, black is ground, and pink is the signal and should be secured in the plug on the back of the speedo.
