thats what i did on mine. used a longer bolt and acorn nut on one side. on the other side, i drilled both clamps out to be able to put the mirror stem through. this combination looks nice and snubs up against the switch controls to look like it came that way.

This is my other dilemma. How do I mount my mirror on the clutch side? The mirror as it sits now is drilled through the clutch perch. If I get rid of that for just a clamp, how does the mirror mount? As you can tell, I'm not understanding what you did. I can't see how there is enough room to drill a hole for the mirror in the clamp by itself. Pics would help.

man if i could get you a pic it sure would help. but ive got my old parts packed up. just picture those two halves that you have now, butted together. they will form a perfect circle around the handlebar. each half has two holes in it. instead of bolting those two halves together, put a bolt and nut through one side. drill the holes on the other side(both halves) large enough fro the mirror to slip though all the way. this will be your mirror mount and it butts up against the switch housing to match your other side. hope this helps.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I got it now!

Basically using the mirror stud as the stud/bolt to clamp one side of the clamp down. That sounds like a plan.

yep, from the factory, those clamps would be mounted with the bolts in different positions as they would thread into the clutch perch. you will just twist the clamps around to where one of the holes is where the old mirror mount would be.
