When I get away from bigger cities and I'm by myself, I turn it on to ch19 and don't talk on it...just listen. Truckers are a wealth of information. Both about highway conditions and life in general. They are the only ones that are more paranoid about the police than some of the members of this forum.

I do the same. Put it on 19 and listen to the smokey reports and traffic info. Every once in a while you'll get real entertainment from some trucker doing his ***** Nelson impression.
I may be wrong, since I haven't paid much attention to CB tuning...in years...but didn't you suppose to tune the antenna to the lower.....then the upper channels, so that the middle channels had the best SWR/tuned (averaged I guess you'd call it?).
Whatever...but if you ride around on channel three....not going to hear much. Not much on channel 19 either. If you ride with a group....pick a channel before you put up the jiffy stands.
Tip: If for instance, you are on a channel and you get a butt head talking crap and you want to lose him for awhile...let the other riders in your group know that when you say say "Let's go UP a channel", that what you mean is to go DOWN FOUR, or however many.
While the JERK is looking for you UP a channel...you will be elsewhere. By the time he figures out what you all did....you may be out of range.
did a week in tenessee and kentucky with a group of 12 6 were women, that made for some very entertaining comments on channel 19 especialy when the grils were leadin.even better after letting them go on for awhile then letting them know we were listeing.
Our HOG group always uses 1 here in Tennessee. The group I ride with in Florida uses 1 also. Never herd of using channel 3? Most biker groups including the Goldwing and Harley guys use 1.
