Well I haven't seen anyone mention that when using synthetic oil you should use a synthetic oil filter. A paper filter will break down prematurely when used with synthetic oil.

I don't suppose you have any documentation to back this up. I'm not saying it isn't true. Mainly because that not my area of knowledge. I do think it is interesting that the dealer I go to here locally still puts the same filter on the bike when they are running synthetic as they do with standard oils.
could not help myself, I have to chime in. I have run Amsoil in both my bikes and never let the oil stay in for more than 2500miles, It was fine in my 88tc engine but not as good in my 96c.i. The problem was the noise, never drained out dirty or broken down, just got tired of the increased valve train noise, went with Redline and now its really quiet so I figure if the oil makes the bike run and sound good than its a good oil. I also noticed my oil temps are cooler with the Redline not much but I noticed it.
I have ran it faithfully for 100,000 miles plus in my motorcycle engines.I had a 2006 Ultra with 71,500 on it until it was totaled in a crash. It started rattling on me at times and found out that it was a bad lifter. It would only do it sometimes, but not all of the time. I think that you will find out that it wasn't the oil.
Too bad about your motor and that you could not determine it was the oil that caused the problem.I highly doubt it was the oil considering Amsoil is stable up into the hundreds of degrees.Been using Amsoil in everything I own for a lot of years, vehicles going 1 yr between oil changes.Good Luck
Amsoil Question, What is the code letter of the old Amsoil Motorcycle oil 20/50
Does any one remember? Its the one that MCV took the place of and it
could go into the engine only. Before all this 3 hole stuff started.

what? i call bs on this one. there is nothing about synthetic oil that would even cause paper to break down. it isn't like it's more acidic or anything.
I only read a couple of these postings but my experience wasn't that great with amsoil either, in high heat it seemed the bike was noisier, drag specialities was the worst of any oil I've used same temp conditions, V twin was okay, hate to say this but the best so far has been the harley oil for lower valve train noise and looks better on the oil pressure gauge at a stop light too.........08 ultra at 30,000 miles
