I have lowers and a fork baffle on my 09 Street Glide and buffeting is no longer an issue. When I pull the lowers off there is definitely a noticeable difference but the fork baffle does seem to redirect quite a bit of the air flow that causes the buffeting. I also have a 6" wind screen.
I put a Bat Wing fairing on my RK and it eliminated a lot of the buffeting I had with the stock W/S, I installed both the fork baffle and the fork side deflectors and for the most part stopped all the buffet; they also help when I use just the W/S. May not like the look but they help immensely, I have considered lowers to remove the side fork deflectors as I really do not like the look.
Has anyone solved the bad air flow problem around the front fairing on the 2009 or 2010 street glided. I got some air deflectors on mine and it is still pretty bad.
All you can really do is experiment with stuff until you find your tolerance for buffeting. The Batwing was more about styling than aerodynamics.
I have a 8" clearview with recurve and it puts the wind over my helmet.
I also have the bottom tree air baffle and found it works a little and is worth 25 bucks.
When riding I've found most of the air flow comes from underneath the fairing, up around the tank and hits you in the chest, I get a little relief by putting my knees against the tank. I've reached my tolerance point and just ride. Good luck and let us know what you do and how it works for you.
I got that on the recommendation of a salesman and it has helped quite a bit.
I have it and I don't see any difference with it or without it. I kept it on the bike because it's chrome otherwise it would have made a nice ashtray for my garage. <g>
Every thing from a flip up windshield to the fork baffles help a little, but the 1 thing that made the biggest improvement was the HD lower fork air deflectors.
The biggest detractor to the fork deflectors is a slightly unnerving reaction to turbulence around large wind disturbing trucks, RV's and the like, I get a little fork wobble from the 'wing' effect with them and did confirm it goes away as I remove them only to return to buffeting from under the fairing across the tank.
I'd like to try the fork baffles but I've heard they don't clear the lowers on an Ultra. Anyone know of a solution for that (or an aftermarket fork baffle that clears)? Thanks - Bob
