Finally....Oil Temp Gauge Works
For those who don't know the saga, I started with a Roger McEwan gauge from DHP. It was bad out of the box and would not move off of 220 period. I will never buy a damn thing from DHP again! After 6 weeks I still don't have a replacement or refund and they will not return phone calls or emails. That taught me to use a credit card for online purchases, if I had, I could have at least disputed the charges.
Anyway, I ordered a Harley gauge, installed and it would jump to 180 within 2 miles of riding, another 2 miles and it was pegged on 350. WTF! At this time I was questioning my mechanical ability although I have been working on these things since I was a kid. Including quite a few ground up restorations.
Back to the dealer, they ordered another one. Installed it earlier in the week and finally got to test it out on Friday. Works just as it should. Oil temps in the 230 - 240 range at 80+ mph in 105 degree ambient temps. A little higher than I thought but it sealed my thoughts on these things needing an oil cooler.
My lesson on this? 1. Stay the hell away from Direct Harley Parts! 2. You can get 2 bad parts back to back.
No onto the next project.....Khromewerks bars.
