Default Gonna do my "Off topic" thread, Ticket Lawyers????

Ok, the "Photo cop" ticket thread got me thinking about something I have often wondered about.....

What are your opinions on the "Ticket Fixit" lawyers?

I think it is hurting our young drivers ability to be able to drive responsibly... my son had several tickets while he was younger, some he told me about some he didn't.. (He went to one of those shops and got it "Fixed")
I personally hate the idea of them, the reason there are citations given are to make you learn, I nearly lost my license when I was a teen. In IL. There are no points, it was quite simply "3 Moving violations in 12 months" you lost your license for 90 days. I came close twice, the second time I had to keep my "Nose clean" for almost 9 months! After that, I became a MUCH more responsible driver. (I also learned how to go to court, talk to the Judge, explain something and win a couple cases!)
When I confronted my son on one of his tickets, he told me he had friends who had gotten 12-15 tickets in their first two years of driving, what's the big deal? I told him, it is a big deal,, tickets are to teach you a lesson, DRIVE RIGHT. Not just cost you money and let you keep driving like an idiot...

I think the local police and courts don't mind these things, because the common "Settlement" is to double the fine. Hence more "REVENUE" for the localities... same as the "Red light cameras"
I really think this contributes to more teen deaths and injuries in most states. And I am totally against it.
I feel there should be a way to "Track" them.. if you get a ticket, and take it to the lawyer, and he goes in front of the Judge, the Judge can look at your history, say, "Man, I see a trend here",,, case denied, this will be a MOVING VIOLATION WITH POINTS,,, tell your client they still owe you the money for coming, and they still have to pay the fine, and get the points, sorry!

What are all your thoughts on this?

But do you think it contributes to careless drivers? ESPECIALLY in our teens?
NO sense of responsibility, or consequences?

I think the parents should raise kid to be responsible. Responsible for their driving, their own bills, and all other actions.
Paying the fines and lawyer to fix it is OK by me as long as the money comes out of his own pocket. That's life in the U.S. pay the lawyers and court system enough and you ca get away with............well I guess the payout is the punishment.

But kids think that they're getting by with something,, even if it costs them. I absolutely NEVER paid one of my kids tickets, or to get them fixed. Consequently my son has spent a night in jail, a COUPLE of times, because he had a warrant out for his arrest, because he "Forgot" to go to court...
I used to feel terrible, like I had failed, but realize he was just a consequence of the mentality of allot of kids nowdays.
Thankfully he has matured a ton in the last years, and is the responsible adult I always knew he could be!

If they can pay for it so be it. I had a few tickets in my younger days only fought one of them as there was no way on this earth I was going as fast as the trooper said I was. I couldn't even get as fast as he said I was on my CBR-900RR I had at the time. I was in a cage and if I couldn't get that fast on the bike no way I could in the cage.

Responsibility starts with the parents and ends with the kid plain and simple. It is their money their license and their insurance. When my girls get to that age (3 and 6 years to go) then they will know the consequences as I did. 1 ticket = no driving for a month period 2 tickets = 3 months more then that no driving unless they are paying the insurance.

I'm not sure if the term "fixed" that you're using means the same up here in the great white north!!
We have the same kinds of places where they will fight a ticket for you. They even offer the guarantee that you only pay if you are convicted of the offence as described on the ticket. What they do is go to court and make deals for a lower speed, a different charge or whatever.
I agree that all these deals send the wrong message to younger drivers. I know up here ANY conviction immediately gets put on your drivers abstract and the insurance companies know about them within a few weeks. That's what really gets peope's attention.

ahh, not here, The "Fixed ticket" is taken down to a "Loud muffler" or something, a NON MOVING violation, the insurance never sees it, no points. No "Consequences" Except a lighter wallet, and I guess most kids don't give a rat's A$$ about that.
So they keep driving like idiots, like they're playing a game. You should see the Interstate west of St. Peters, MO. on a school day when it lets out. Kids weaving in and out, driving 90 when traffic is moving 70,,, and laughing while they are doing it. I had one kid run up on me, in the right lane, when no one was really passing each other across three lanes, he whipped to my right and passed me on the shoulder! I WOULD have wrung his neck if I could have got my hands on him...
It happens all the time,, then when I read in the paper or hear on the news of the "Tragic" death or injury of a Teen driver locally, I just have to ask myself,,, "I wonder how many tickets they have had fixed?" See, when your on the verge of loosing your license for 90 days, even as a teen, YOU DO CHANGE how you drive,, and learn to be more careful.
Which doesn't seem to happen with todays kids.

Just as a side note to this topic of tickets. For all the good people from the US that ride/drive up here in almost any province. If you get a ticket in Canada, there are recipricol agreements with the majority of the states that any violation will be enforced in your home state.
I'm not positive about the points but the monetary fine will be charged to you in your home state and this goes the other way as well. (Canadians getting a ticket in the US)
"Big Brother" has very long arms!!!!!

I agree that for some, consequences (financial, jail, suspenson or whatever) are the best "teacher". When I was younger and parents paid my insurance, I got speeding tickets all the time and pretty much only had to endure lectures and guilt trips. Funny thing happened on the way to adulthood when I had to start paying my own way...when tickets started affecting my pocketbook, not so much the fine, but the INSURANCE cost, I started thinking maybe I should slow my butt down. And, now that I'm becoming an MSF Instructor, I will lose my credentials/certificate if I get too many points on my record. You can bet I'll be even more vigilant.
