I did that trip last year.
Chief Joseph Highway(state highway 296) from Yellowstone to Cody is totally amazing!
Beartooth was also pretty cool but requires more concentration so you may miss some of the scenery!
Going to Sturgis the week after it is over is priceless......T-shirts are CHEAP!!
I wouldn't worry about the escaped convicts. The bears will get them!

We where just in Yellowstone on Friday, it was great, my bike caught fire, but I got it out, we had the rare oportunity to drive right by a Bison, and when I say right by I mean just that it was walking the yellow line, we had to drive past it, must have been two feet from it...and no one got a photo! We also seen a mother grizzly with three cubs, it was a great ride, but then it is always great, you will love it!!

In another thread I had talked about how I had the timing chain tensioners replaced and the bike ran poorly, I was wondering if it where possible that he got the chain off a tooth, turns out he upset the wires from the regulator just enough that the hot wire which had the insulation rubbed off of it in one spot started to short out on the frame, in yellowstone it made a dead short and started a small oil fire, kind of glad it happend because I was able to find and fix the problem, just glad it happened at a pick nick area and not on the road, Yellowstone is not a place you want to be working on a bike on the road!

Yellowstone on a bike...top 5 of my 'bucket list'! Love the bitter winters up there...been camping & fishin' during the spring & summer...I love that place. Truly one of God's most incredible creations. As for the rest of your trip...damn, I'm jealous! Bison are huge, but be really wary of moose & elk...big country, big animals. Maybe the grizzlies will scare those fugitives back to AZ!
Ride safe...enjoy!

Just got back! It is a awesome trip! Bear Tooth Pass is my all time favorite. (been over it several times now) Followed closely by the Chief Joseph Hwy. Be prepared to ride on gravel hwys in Yellowstone some. (road construction) Stop in Cooke City and have lunch at the "Miners Saloon, Casino, and Emporium". Great hamburgers as well as pizza! Helpful hint: try to go over Bear Tooth in the morning. It most always rains in the afternoon. We went over to Red Lodge in the afternoon and got rained on, and sleeted on, plus some very pretty but scary lightening. Came back over the next morning and had perfect weather. Chief Joseph Hwy is a great ride also. We stayed at the Irma in Cody. Even if you don't stay there, you might want to check out what is on the menu at the restaurant. The prime rib buffet is well worth the price!!

P.S. Oh yeah, if you stay in Red Lodge, check out the Yodler Motel. (they have a water hose and plenty of towels to clean the bike with)

(of course if you don't take your laptop with you, or get on- line at a motel, you will never know the great tips we just passed on to you....)
