Default Debating 21 inch front? Single sided rotor?

I been debating getting a 21 inch front wheel. I would need to lower the front since I am just under 5'8. I would also need to get a new front fender. The fender I have now is a Klock Werks and it is made for an 18 inch wheel. I think I would end up getting a wrapped front fender to show the wheel off more.

I also like the look of a single sided front rotor. I get a lot of mixed opions on this. It does look better. I had one guy tell me it gives the bike a "snowplow effect??" No idea what that means. If I did this I would get a 13 inch rotor and a six piston brake. Is the single sided rotor not a good idea?

I am looking for some opinions. I know it is my choice in the long run. I am looking for some input and opinions on this.

I also have new in the box Performance Machine Torque rotor. I have the part number (not handy right now) I believe it is for an 07? $250 shipped.

Thanks
Eric

DO IT!!! the 21" wheel will look sick on your bike. The single side rotor will look good too. sux you gotta get a new fender, but thats the way it goes. the six piston brake should give you the same stopping power as the dual stockers.

think the snow plow effect is when the bike feel like its pulling a bit from the single brake side while braking. not sure maybe some one else will verify.

Fferic, I too am researching the purchase of new wheels, and whether to go for a 21" wheel in front. So far, my research leads me to believe the change in handling/ride will not be significant; and will be mostly neutralized by lowering the front forks. In terms of the single rotor, the vast majority of opinions that I have either received personally or read about recommend against the single rotor setup--especially on a touring bike. I do have one question for you, Fferic--it looks like you bike currently has an 18" wheel in front. To me, your chrome wheel looks great. Granted, the 21" wheels really show off the wheels; but I'm wondering if you weren't happy with your present wheels because you don't think they pop as much as the 21"?

I was considering doing the single rotor with my 21", but I really like the braking power of the stock Brembo brakes on my 08, so that's what is making me not rush to do this mod. If my bike didn't already have the Brembo setup, I would definitely do it. I have spoken to a lot of people that run this setup and pile on a lot of miles and really ride their bikes hard and they all same it feels the same as stock. I think a 21" rim, wrap fender, single-sided 6 piston brake/rotor will look SICK and still perform great, but I cannot testify from first-hand experience.

Had the single sided setup on my street glide, and it's no different than riding a fat boy or a heritage with a single sided front brake. Also changed the master cylinder to a 9/16 single brake model. The damn thing won't pull to one side.

The wheels I have now are 18 inch. I like to change things and I do think the 21 inch would pop more. I think it would make the bike look completely different.

My bike is an 06 so I do not have the Brembo brakes. Is it necessary to change the master cylinder to 9/16? I just had all my hand controls changed to chrome last winter.

I vote YES on both... 21" and single side brake. I just went with the stock size 11.8 rotor and the stock caliper... it stops in plenty of time... had the same set up on my 07 SG also. I changed my MC out to a 9/16 bore so the brake lever wasnt tight/hard. I also lowered the bike 1" in the front and rear as I'm only 5'7". I'm running the FBI wrap front fender with the FBI chin spoiler as well... couple pics for you.

Do it, I get more comments and questions about the 21" wheel than anything else I've ever done.
