Had a very good friend that is well versed on the front shocks of our touring bikes RG/EG put mine back to stock.. Awhile back I had a HD low profile installed (HD part # 54598-02) along with the HD low profile rear shocks... Wife really did not like the ride - tried many air pressure setting and just decided to go back to stock... Well, got the front shocks back and the left side is like a ROCK solid... Something is wrong... Friend is at a loss - He is convinced it put together right - its now at the Dealer to get taken apart (not until Tuesday) thought I would post here for all you shade tree Mechs out there... Anyone have a problem like this and figure out the answer ??? This is by no means the first front end my friend has done - I really do trust him and we are both waiting to see what "another set of eyes will find" Lunch bet rests on the out come - I win lunch if he just screwed up, I owe him lunch if it is some mech failure inside??? = either way, I now have to pay HD $75 to find the answer....
Well, are you ready - got a call from the dealer late today - looks like the WRONG springs were in the shocks...
Just a little history here. 1.5 years ago, bought low profile kit from HD. Had my friend take the shocks apart - all the parts were put into a box - the lowers were chromed - I took the chromed lowers all the stock parts and the low profile kit to Dealer - they installed the lowering kit and returned the completed shocks / box and all stock parts to me. I installed the forks and the box went on my shelf until last week. took box and shocks to friend - he put stock items back together - front end very hard???
So - off to the dealer first thing in the morning - I "think" I have a good relationship with this dealer = we will see.
One of two things happened -
My bike was built with the wrong springs???
Somehow the dealer got my stock springs mixed up and swaped while at the dealer??
I was with my friend at his house - no one else there - what came out of the shocks went into the box....
actually, the cost of stock springs are under $40 for both - I am just pissed that this all has happened and all the labor...
I will post how this all turns out - a lot of time has passed so I do not expect a lot - ??????
Note= as of 5pm today - my mechanic did not have a clue as to what kind of springs were installed as stock ???
this to will be looked into tomorrow
