How does the stock cam conspire with other EPA mandated components and settings in a stock 96 to give any kind of respectable spread of power to make anybody wanna buy a new Harley? What does the stock cam really do for you (or more importantly, HD to satisfy EPA regs?) What is the torque curve of the stock cam? Does the stock cam have any benefit over SE 255s or Andrews, et al in a stock 96, especially once AFR is sorted out via Nightrider, SERT, or PCV, and intake and exhaust, or should I just resolve to get the hell rid of said cam if I have hope of ever being happy with a 96? I'm not just bitching rhetoric, I'm looking for technical enlightenment.

If you contact BigDaddyMike, or use the search function, you'll find his threads on dynoing his otherwise stock engine (with freer flowing mufflers and a/c) which should help with quantifying the stock 96 engine; and, his later mods with cams and mufflers.

If you go to HD's website, click the "Experience" tab, then select "Racing" from the drop down menu for the Screamin Eagle Race Parts catalog (or ask for one at an HD parts counter), and check out page 55 where you will find the cam specs for the OEM cams in the '07-'08 96" engine (no specs are provided for '09 and newer model years) and SE cams. You can compare the part nos. for the OEM cams for the '07-'08 years with those in your model year bike at an HD parts counter using the parts catalogs they have, or which you can buy for your bike. You can also compare the cam specs for the SE-255 cams and others using the SE parts catalog.

+1 on Jamie. I used his dyno tuned Jackpot slip ons , PCV, and HD big sucker A/C and what a difference in performance and cooler running engine. All basically bolt on, PCV came already mapped from Jamie. Just bolt her on and go !

The learning curve continues, today as expected I got that duh I dont know look from the head wrench at dealer. His whole though was sorry dude.
Talked to a very helpful guy at Nightrider today. They are testing new components for the exid touring version, should be available in a few weeks.
In the mean time I will try my stock ac and see if that will help with the surging. Thanks for the help.

From my POV you need an EFI module. Try to listen to the noice of AC big sucker (your pipes will make it difficult), your engine needs more fuel. If you want to have it very simple but good, look into V&H Fuelpak or go with the PC.

SIU, I have the same set-up, with Monster Ovals instead of the Rounds, same A/C. I got the FuelPak (since I was running the MO's too). The V&H guys were very helpful, and the plug and play set-up was a piece of cake...not technical at all. Good luck, there are a ton of options out there. My King is very happy now. Lots of power and torque all the way through the gears.
