When selecting a map for a new PowerC[hr]ommander, is the stock HD ECM, such as the one in my '06 FLHRKC,
considered a "stage one ECM" by the PowerCommander Menu options? I downloaded the map coded but only see
Stage One ECMSlisted for the various exhaust and air intake combinations. Appreciate any help.
no, stock is stock. if you bought the PCIII from a dealer/distributor and it came in the original package there should be a CD with it that has maps for stock, stage one and stage two setups. otherwise you should be able to find it online. if not, call powercommander, they are pretty good about helping out.
If you bought a stock bike and did not have dealer installed air cleaner and slipons then you have the stock ecm, when planing on using a PCIII and not thinking of haveing it mapped by a dynojet tuning center its best to select your pipes from the list of available maps before buying them as they do not have every brand mapped, but the dynojet tech told me there are very little difference in slipons and you can get by selecting a close to what you have set up, example, SEII's are the same as vance and hines original slash cuts.
The previous owner had an HD Stage 1 installed at the dealer when my Ultra Classic was new. If I understand what you guys are saying, them the ECM is also not stock, am I correct in my understanding?
The other part of my question is, does the upgrade of the Stage 1 and ECM change cause the engine to burn more lean or richer than stock?
The stage 1 upgrade to the ECM lets it run richer to compensate for the more air coming in from the SE air cleaner and the less back pressure from the free flowing exhaust if he added slipons, the true stage 1 kit includes only the air cleaner and re program to the ECM. Your ECM is still the stock part just reprogramed, it can be swiched back to stock programing by your dealer if you wanted to do so. But then it would run to lean umless you went back with the stock air cleaner system.

This brings up a 2 part question I have.
