Wife and I just got back from a 1350 mile road trip from Reno to the Ca coast up to Florence Or. into Junction City Or. back to Reno. We didn't have as much time as I would have liked, but the trip was awesome. Found a Motel in Crescent that had what she called a suite for 145.00 a night but ended up being a 3 bedroom two story house on the beach with your own private deck and a great view of the beach. Our trip was great except that the fog layed in for the entire coast ride so we didn't see much of the ocean but the ride was so beautiful I didn't mind.
Sounds like a great trip, my wife has family in Or. we where going to do the coast this year but the family changed the reunion to next year, I am so wanting to do that ride, the beach houses are cool, good for you!!!

I was actually quite disappointed. The girlfriend and I rode down from Astoria to Gold Beach last week and less than 10 percent of Hwy 101 had a view of the ocean, most of the way was just like riding inland. However the people and towns were great especially the folks at Coos Bay HD, but for views nothing beats the California coastline.
Yes, alot of the OR coast is "hid" and I was disapointed at first. But I didn't mind after all. Just made stops at the the beach access parks and comming out from behind a dune to see a bridge [they have great bridges]and the coast line ahead were worth it.
From BC to Eureka CA. Saw an awful lot of fog in Oregon too. One night it was so thick, couldn't see 100ft. next morning the bike was covered in salt. Motel owner let me wash it before I left. It was a great ride for sure. Then ran up hwy 97 all the way to Penticton BC
