I was disapointed with my 06 Ultras oil pressure at idle. Today the idle pressure went from almost zero at idle, to around 20lbs. I had this happen in a v8 engine once only to find out I had a partially spun cam bearing that was causing a restriction. Is this sudden rise in oil pressure a problem...is it sumping or is there a restriction, bad filter bypass? Or should I be happy? I have only ridden about 500 miles since the 5k service.
I see why no one understood my question..in the future I will try to....proof read what you post....proof read what you post.....proof read wht u post poof read wyat you pist.....prooof ream what you posts.....sorry if I confused anyone
Amsoil or Mobil-1 will cause better pressure than other oils. So if you are using one of these expect better pressure. hd 360 or Syn 3 will go to near zero when heated up at idle.
i am not broken in yet and have the same thing ,if i go on the highway for a while and pull of then i get near zero and a whine sound. the shop says it's normal and the main bearng is designed for it and the engine is ok at 3 lbs but i too am paranoid is it ok?
This is kinda what I am worried about...either a bad spring or a restriction somewhere. I am glad that the oil pressure numbers are higher, but worried that the increase is a harbinger of a catastrophic failure. The bike is running Syn3 and cant really come up with a reason for the increase that would cause all that much concern....but was just wondering if maybe there was a known issue or if someone had had this happen before thier engine started that dreaded double clack.
BTW wnogood let us know how your buildup goes

I had a new oil pump spring installed in mine when my cams were upgraded. Much better now. 20-25 hot idle, almost 40 at road speed.
Thats what I wanted to hear I hope your right, if not....well I guess thats why there are warranties. Just seems strange that there would be a sudden increase in the oil pressure.
I asked several long time techs, and even changed from syn3 to amsoil, it runs at the lowest mark above 0 at hot idle, and this has been the same on 2 different bikes. I think its more a gauge problem than a pressure problem.
