Default Check Engine Light...

I was cruising between 45 - 55 mph on an open road yesterday when the "Check Engine Light" came on for about 30 seconds and then went out. There was no change in the performance or sound of my engine. Everything seemed normal. It did not happen again during the rest of the ride home which was about 30 miles. My questions are:

- Has anyone experienced this and do you know what caused it?
- Should there still be a code stored even though the light went out?

Thanks in advance to those that post a reply.

Check your codes and bet you'll find a P0131 or P0132 or P0151 or P0152.

Dawg, would an O2 sensor code be registered due to an overheating situation? Why would you get an over/under reading on your O2? I'm curious because on a recent road trip to Milwaukee I experienced this same engine light, however no codes were present. The oil temp gauge was reading nearly 260 at the time and it was hotter than hell outside. Engine continued to operated normally but the light remained illuminated until I was able to get out of traffic and air it out a bit. It went out, and has never came back on.

The codes I posted above are for the running rich/running lean conditions in correlation with the 02's. I've had the light flash before on my 04 (no 02's) but for running rich. This was when it was on a long road trip and varying conditions. The light coming on when overheating I'm surprised didn't register a code. Do you have EITMS enabled?

That would be part of an alphabet test for DUI sobriety tests

I had the light come on again today for about 20 seconds. It occured shortly after starting the engine. I hadn't even put it in gear yet. Then it went out. I went for a ride and the engine performed as usual with no apparent problems. Normal reading on the volt meter and no unusual sounds.

I installed a PCV and SE255 cams in the Spring and the scoot has been running well since. I'll just have to go to the dealership and have them pull the codes.

I bet you have a historical code that you can pull from the spedo. If you do not reset it, I think after a few cycles, the CEL will not show again (unless the issues pops up while riding).
