Using the headsets
I am usually sans lid....and shorty when I cross into hard hat states...but, with the "war department" aboard, we use the HD 3/4 helmets for intercom (and I run the speakers on anyway)...there is nothing wrong with the over the counter HD speakers/mic, but the sound (especially FM,CDs) was "tinny"...not real sweet. I took some standard old craft felt like stuff, and wrapped it around the speakers, slid a small piece of regualr old foam rubber behind the speakers, and stuck them back in the ear cut outs...voila! Sound is now fine! Total cost = $2.00 and 15 minutes of time. No adapters, upper and lower cords, etc.
On VOX...usless, IMHO. Road noise, otehr scoots pipes (especially cruiser's drags, Thunerheaders, etc.) trucks and wind just set the VOX off too easily and there alweays seems to be a delay in activating VOX. We jst use the PTT function and all is well. (I occasionally "accidently" unplug my cord and lose intercom function....ya understand my drift?)
