Ijust sold my fxdc and bought a 2010 rk.I read this forum almost daily. What i would like to know is,after putting loads of money into my dyna, pipes, tuner, etc, etc.what do you think of leaving my road king stock. I like the sound of stock,i dont need more power.I know you can make it run cooler, but the factory put it out this way,it must be able to last.I might do somthing later down the road, but right now i just want my wife and i to be able to enjoy the new ride and spend our money on other things that we would like to have for biking like more gear, motels, trips, etc, etc. What do you think?
Nothing says you have to put anything into your RK than what you want to do. Nothing wrong with a stock RK (mine is) the only person(s) you need to please is yourself and your wife.
Thanks for the reply Gonzy. I have put a mustang seat and heritage style bars on it and a few other goodies, but plan on leaving the engine and pipes stock.
You can do anything you want! It is your ride I plan on changing out the exhaust on mine due to the cat in the header pipe and to reduce the heat. But that is just me..if you are content with stock then keep it that way!!
Let us know how the heat is after riding for awhile...that is the main reason I am changing my pipes when I get a chance. I too am not concerned with squeezing every last ounce of HP out of the engine....just the heat.
My '10 RK is stock. The only problem is all the heat on the right side, cooks my leg. On these days of 90 degrees or more you can really tell its there. Other than that, love it!
You have the right idea.........ride it stock! Later you can decide what's best for you, whether it cooks the legs or not, more hp or not, etc. Nothing wrong with the bike as-is.
BTW.......riding stop n go traffic in the noon day 108 deg sun of Vegas last Saturday the wife looked over at a red light from her stock 07 RKC and said her right leg was hot!
I looked over from my 08 with true duals, AC and PCV equipped RKC and said mine too!
Big motors sitting a few inches away in the heat of the day heck yes they're hot.
