Harley suspension varies in perception from being fine for some owners, who can travel the globe in comfort, to the utter pits. And every shade in between! Doesn't make sense. What is certain is that most Harleys do not come with the finest suspension available, despite the price of the bikes. If only Harley would pluck up courage to offer say Penske shocks on selected models, but....

It's a mystery to me that my brother's BMW has press-button electronically adjustable Ohlins suspension, my Buell and FXDXT have perfectly fine adjustable suspension, but the touring bikes are so badly equipped.

Admittedly my Glide is an old model, but I recently fitted custom-built Ohlins shocks (from HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal), which have transformed my ride and cured bottoming as well. Ohlins fork cartridges next!

The 940's that you love the ride are u solo or 2 up. I need better shocks
for the wifes sg but was told the 940's are more suited for 2 up. I'm still
thinking on the 440. I think her weight is 160 (hope she doent read this part)

Going to a 13" shock will help quite a bit. There are a ton of aftermarket shock options out there. I'm very happy with Ricor rear shocks and Intiminators in the forks.

The BMW shocks only increase or decrease the spring pre-load. The newest model Ohlins are valving electronically adjustable. Your load will not change if you set your pre-load prior to your ride. This is only when you change from local riding to loading up your bike with everything your wife can pack.

Changing valving from the dash will allow you to select the best ride for the riding surface at that moment.

It feels very harsh almost as if there is no dampening at all. As popular as these bikes are I can't think this is normal.

Thanks in advance.
I had the same feeling about my own 2010 SG and quickly realised from reading the posts here that the only route was to change out the stock units.

I choose a set of OHLINS from Motorcycle Metal, Howard has a set (#3 #1) which he has specifically built for the SG with a 12" length, the ride is now what I would expect HD to be delivering from new and the good looks of the SG have been retained.

Coming from sports machines you will certainly feel comfortable with the performance upgrade and Howard's pricing for forum members made the cost a little easier to swallow.
