Whats the trick to adjusting your bars on a electra glide, unscrewed the console but it seems the ignition switch has to come off. Any takers on this problem ?? How about a pic of those wild chubby bars...
To ADJUST the bars, not remove, you need to remove the switch.
To remove the switch, turn the switch to ACCESS, now take a flathead screwdriver, and as you are looking the switch from the left side of the bike, on the left side of the switch, (just left of where your key goes), there is a tab that you need to push up on with a flat head screwdriver. With that tab depressed, turn the key 60 degrees counter clockwise and the switch will pop off.
Take off the bold underneath it, two screws on either side of the shroud (plastic thing under the switch), and you will see the bottom two bolts that secure the handlebar. Loosen those and you can move around the handle bars. Tighten everything back up (don't overtighten the bolt that was under the switch, I think it's about 125 INCH/lbs.
Handlebar screws are 12-16 ft/lbs , don't wrench the crap out of them either.
I do have the Wild1 Chubbys. They are very nice, and I'm pleased with the quality. Riding preference will vary from rider to rider, obviously. Do you have yours mounted?
No i'm thinking about replacing the stock bars thats why i wanted some input and to see how they look. I'm a big boy at 6'4" 235 the stock bars are ok but i think i can get a better feel with other bars. Thanks mac , love to see those bars !!!
Here's some pics...I've got more on my website...but this is the most recent with my upgraded handlebar switch housings and stainless steel braided cables...
FWIW, I'm 6'3", I have the Wild 1's rocked down pretty far. They are wide...and have more pull back...
You can see that with the internal wiring, things are cleaned up. If you need more pics or better angles, let me know. If you want a pic with me on it, I can get Kelly to help...
