Default Saddle bag latch spring.

Today I replaced a broken spring.Looks like the spring has been modified. The legs are bent so they lay flat against the latch. The legs on the old spring are not.
Hope this mod makes them last longer!
The P/N is 90707-00A.

Have a broken one I haven't messed with yet. On a scale of one to six beers where would you rate this?

After replacing a few of these damn things over the years,I would say 1 for an expert and 3-5 for a novice!
While my bike was under the factory warranty,I had a shop replace one.To make a long story short,I had to reinstall the spring to make it work correctly.I guess this may be a difficult task for some techs or at least the one that worked on mine.

Just did one the other day, a leg broke off due to it being rusted. Spring looked like it had been sitting on the bottom of the bay for 10 years instead of on a garage kept bike! Kind of a pita job having to grind that weld on the end of the hinge to get at the rod (wiz wheel). The good news is, it's probably the cheapest part you'll ever buy from HD!

Thats odd.One end on the piano hinge on mine is welded while the other end is peened/swaged.

Any job automatically takes at least 10-12 beers
