I was involved in an accident with my SG in April, spent almost a month in the hospital but I am finally healed enough to get back on my ride. When I was in the helecopter they cut my leathers off so I have to purchase new riding gear. Since the accident I have been extremely safety conscious therefore I am looking for a riding jacket with shoulder, elbow and back body armour. In the past I have always rode with leather but I am now contemplating nylon since they come with better armour than most leather jackets. Does anyone have an opinion or first hand experience with the Tour Master line of jackets. I have seen a few, they look decent and are relativley inexpensive when compared to Harley jackets but I am wondering if the Tour Master is as good as the Harley line. I don't mind paying a little extra if I'm getting what I am paying for.
Harley line of jackets is all about looks. The Tour Master line of riding apparel is about function. If you are going to wear a jacket, wear one that protects to the fullest.
COME OM FRANK, YOU KNOW THE DRILL. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" I BELIEVE HARLEY MAKES THE BEST RIDING APPAREL AVAILABLE AND YES IT DOES COST A BIT MORE. LOOK INTO THE FXRG LINE. EXPENSIVE AND TOP QUALITY. A LOT OF OTHER JACKETS LOOK GOOD AND FUNCTIONAL BUT WHEN YOU GET TO THE THREAD,ZIPPERS AND FASTENERS IS WHEN YOU SEPARATE THE GOOD FROM THE MAKE BELIEVE GOOD. HARLEYS FXRG LINE IS FULLY GUARANTEED FOR 5 YEARS. TRY THAT WITH YOUR OTHER LINE. AND IF YOU PREFER NYLON THEY ALSO HAVE AN FXRG NYLON LINE. IF NOTHING BUT THE BEST WILL DO THEN GO TO LANGLITZ. THEY HAVE A 6 MONTH WAITING LIST AND EVERYTHING IS CUSTOM MADE .AT LEAST CHECK OUT THE FXRG LINE. GO TO A LARGE HD SHOP AND MAYBE SHOP THE HD SITE. A LOT OF SMALLER DEALERS DONT CARRY IT BECAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE BUT ANY OF THEM CAN GET IT WITHIN 3-4 DAYS. AND YES, I USE TO MANAGE A DEALERSHIPS LINE OF MOTORCLOTHES. ALSO YOU CAN GET ANY HARLEY ITEM AT 20% OFF AT CHICAGO HARLEYWTIH NO SHIPPING OR TAXES IF YOU ARE OUT OF STATE. ALSO TRUE OF ZINOTTI AND SYRDYKE. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. IT IS A TOUGH WAY OF LIFE WHEN RIDING BUT I CAN TELL LIKE ME, YOU WOULDNT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY. GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND.
Here is one of the Jackets I have http://www.olympiamotosports.com/airglide/airglide.htm , you can tell when you hold it that it has a lot of protection. It is actually very comfortable in the lower 80s and below in Florida weather, I'm sure any place with lower humidity would be better yet.
I have a Tourmaster cortech "Advanced" jacket and love it. Very comfortable, well made , loaded with protection and very warm but adaptable when the weather warms up (zip out liner, vents). Have worn it through several rainstorms and kept dry. Price was around $200 but I have seen them on the Internet for $140. Highly recommended.
For Summer , I also have the Olympia "Airglide" mesh jacket recommended by thesmithiz earlier. Another very good jacket with excellent protection and a very nice zip out liner.
I don't own any of the top quality nylon armor plated clothing yet but it is on my list of stuff to get real soon. I've done some comparisons and I was pretty impressed with the Tourmaster line of products. I also liked the nylon Harley gear but their FXRG jackets have buttons at the neck and the jacket that fits my body perfectly also chokes me when I try to snap the neck shut. The Tourmaster jacket(s) have a velcro closure that is much more adjustable and their garmet fits me perfect because of it. Just my .02.

I tried a FXRG jacket on at the dealer, it fit great everywhere but the arms. They were way long which placed the armour in the wrong position.
I also tried a limited edition Harley jacket Called "CHAOS" it fit perfect, sells for $250. I have been debating between that and the Tourmaster "Advanced".
