Default Spark Plug Change @ 5k

Dropped my bike off for its 5k service today and the dealer wanted to know if I wanted them to change the plugs. I guess I looked at him funny and he told me that a lot of people change plugs at 5k. The service manual states every 20k. This is my first Harley but 5k sounds way too soon.

I agree with you. I might let him inspect them and check the gap but not replace them at only 5K.

I change mine every season. I average 4500 miles per season. That is not alot of mlies but cheap insurance. I keep the old and compare them to each other to see if there is any significant change in the firing. I also keep the old set in my bags for an emergency on the road.

I do fluid changes, plugs and clean the air cleaner every 5,000 miles. Don't need to do transmission, but I do..... it's cheap, and I know how long it's been, so I don't have to think about....humm did the oil last time, next time I'll do the tranny too, and the primary..... oh yeah, plugs..... Just do it all at 5,000 miles and forget it......

Sure, $100 for the plugs and an hour labor to install them should do it. ; )

Man, buy them for 7 bucks or so and change them yourself. Simplest thing you'll probably do as far as service goes.

I have taken a liking to the SE version. Pay a little more but what the hey. At least I think they are doing more for me which is probably MOCO's plan all along...

I change mine all the time, since it's only $15...you don't have to, but it shouldn't hurt anything. I like the idea of keeping an old pair for an emergency, I'll have to start doing this with my old plugs.

crazy talk. these plugs are operated in an ECM/EFI system. reality check, they are good until they ain't. no way they will get fouled or otherwise with EFI. frankly, snatching on the plug wires and removing the plugs to check the gap will do way more damage than anything.

leave the damn things alone until something (mileage/performance drops) tells you they need to be replaced.
