mtpoland,, your right,,,, also, a lot of complaints will dwindle as a lot of bikes will be put to sleep for the winter!!
wonder what their "spring" sales will look like
Shoulda figured they wouldn't have an email address for customer service. But they did make the mistake of leaving a phone number:
To contact the Motor Company directly, please write:
Harley-Davidson Customer Service
3700 W. Juneau Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53208
To speak with a Harley-Davidson customer service representative call (414) 343-4056.
Sorry, we're unable to receive e-mail at this time.
Drop 'em a line and/or a letter and don't forget. SAFETY CONCERN!!
bucs012 hit the nail on the head with the Ford reminder.
Ex. "How the f--- can I be sure this f---ing thing isn't gonna lock up or blow up on me and my wife when I'm doing 60 or 70 mph down the f---ing interstate trying to pass an 18 wheeler?" And, "I'm considering talking to my bank about returning the bike because it doesn't feel safe and the dealer isn't taking my concerns seriously." Or, "My friend was getting ready to by an Ultra until he heard my transmission, now he's decided to wait and see if y'all are gonna fix the timebomb sounding transmission."
I'm sure when you start talking like that - when a bunch of us start talking like that, they will have to make a formal announcement addressing their customers concerns.
I'll go first and I'll let ya know who I talk to and what they tell me.
My 07 screamin eagle ultra is at the dealer now. it only has 1400 miles on it, I seem to have all the problems in one bike. the clattering on mine was very bad once hot and at low rpms, they ran a compression test and found that my No. one cylinder was way low on compression something like 120 and it should be at 180, they are basically rebuilding the upper half. I truly hope this fixes the problem but after reading this forum I sorta doubt it. My tranny sounds like it is going to come apart in fifth gear only, but it is bad enough that I really struggle to enjoy riding when I go into fifth gear. I also have the starter knock on start up it is obnoxiously loud but tolerable since it really does not effect drive ability and I truly do not beleive they can fix it because of the new emmision requirements the motor has to spin off very quickly now so they have to load up the starter to spin it quick and i beleive the clanging is coming from the springs in the starter. I am in the auto repair business and should have known better than to buy a first year product but I could not resist. I am hoping that my dealer will have some info on the tranny problem soon, my dealer is good and the two techs that work on my bikes are very good. I am certain the MoCo is aware of the problems and will resolve them quickly as they do in the auto side. If not the MoCo will either buy a lot of bikes back or take a very bad rap on their reputation. I am somewhat disappointed but will get over it and I really enjoy the bike. I do not know if calling customer service will help other than to document yet another bike with the problem
these people are most likey being told to tell you there is nothing wrong with the bike and they will tell you that until the probem is solved. Our only hope is that these bikes start stacking up at the dealers and the dealers start screaming loud enough to actually solve the problem, many people will start telling the MoCo they can purchase the bike back if they cannot fix it, then the 07 models will start losing value and the dealers wont be able to give them away that is when the MoCo will act. Until then I will ride my Duece.
I'm guessing the fact that a Fortune 500 Company publicize an e-mail address is a reflection of their interest in customer feedback. I have an 07 Road King Classic and so far am only experiencing excessive engine heat and a whine in fifth. If there is a safety issue in these bikes shortcomings, I imagine numerous complaints to NHTSA would get HD corporates attention faster than anything.
This is already affecting sales I know. I have kept 3 of my riding buddies from buying '07 bikes. I promise to campaigh everyday to prevent the people I know from being on a bike like mine. HD wants to make you believe you are part of the FAMILY. You are while you are giving them your money. But when one of us have a problem you are a ignored step-child!
I agree also. My 07 FLHTCU also has a whine in fifth gear below 2500 rpm's. This engine tranny combination does not feel happy at low rpm's. I'm not an expert but know what feels right when riding this machine. I had the 1000 mile service done and went with HD Syn and felt no difference. mariner
It's so interesting to see what your dealer is going to tell you. I live in Des Moines Ia. and bought my bike at Zooks. Today I go in there and bought a new Road Zeppelin seat (see thread) and just asked them about what they're hearing about feedback on the 07's. The service guy says "oh, about the only thing we have heard is complaining about the engine vibration from the stroked engine!". That just blew me away.
I know for a fact that me (my bike has been in 2 times) and 3 other guys I have met with 07's have had their bikes in there too to either have them serviced or looked over for the same issues. Tranny noise, knocking noise with starter, running hot and mine dieing for no reason.
Weather there is a true problem with the bikes or not....... This has confirmed to me and was proof, the dealers are lieing!!!!!!!!!!!
I picked mine up 2day,dealer couldnt duplicate the noise,I heard it w/in 20 mins. This bike is now getting some serious valve train noise almost to the point of drowning out primary .Plus after 30 min hwy ride home the bike completely shut off coming off exit.Bike wouldnt restart until I shut off ignition switch and then try again.Factory rep is due to check it out in a week.
Was at the dealer today, and waited to talk to the sales manager about my SG..
Told him the problems I am having and ask if he had any other complaints... Of Course, nothing... another salesman was sitting there, and hes started to say
something about ignition miss on the 07's and was hushed up abruptly...
Ask if he has read the thread on this forum... Never heard of it... seems he knew of it 3 months ago when I had my 06.. what's this selective recall?
So I figgured it was futile to hash this out with them, so i told them I'll wait for the RE-CALL...
Anyway, on the way home, I noticed it was running a bit different... as I stopped for a left turn, I swear I heard a compression leak and the engine was jumping
like crazy.. I pulled into the driveway, left it running, and got off to look.... it was shaling really bad.
I'm calling them and aranging to bring it in after all...
