I put the fuel moto head pipe on my ultra a few weeks ago. I had it jet-hot coated before the install, and put it on with the stock mufflers. I noticed an immediate change in the sound. It is less muffled and the exhaust notes sound more distinct. It is slightly louder and perhaps slightly deeper. I rode it that way for about 2-3 weeks and it ran just fine, with no evidence to suggest it was too lean. It also made some difference in performance. I ride 2-up with the wife almost exclusively and we like it quiet. I'm still interested in more power, so I just installed a fuel moto air cleaner and pcV and am collecting the needed items to install the 255's I picked up on ebay.
Besides setting the stage for future performance modifications, the main thing I was after was a reduction in heat, and it has made a huge difference. Very noticably cooler and it was well worth it.
I changed the header with the CAT for V&H power duals and kept the stock mufflers. Sound is a little deeper. Very satisfied with the heat reduction and sound.
Taking the cat out completely significantly reduces heat and increases sound level. Performance increase? Put it this way after installing a cat-less header I had to change the PCV map as my plugs were white and I got popping on decel. Using a 09 header system will work too but the 02 sensors wil not fit as they are a different size.
V&H head pipe and the fuel moto jackpot slip ons and a PCV made all the difference in the world. More performance and less heat! Lost a lot of performance with the stock system. Change it all and you will be happy with a complete package.
10'RK changed to V&H head pipe, Big Sucker AC and tuner but left stock mufflers on. Performance and sound are exactly what I wanted . The stock mufflers are getting louder the longer I ride but I think they are at their loudest right now, at least I hope so.
Bones, This was taken with my iphone and sounds tinny on my computer. Has a lot better sound than this.
I'm not sure if a .mov extension will load , if not give me a pm with your e-mail and I'll send it that way.
ok thanks for the info! I'm probably going to get the dresser duals from V&H for the head pipe and I assume the OEM mufflers will fit (hope)

Before you pull the trigger..... OEM muffs are baffled different left-right and go with the 2-1-2 head pipe.
You may wanna change to a better 2-1-2 H Pipe and keep OEM muffs (maybe) or add different free flow muffs that are designed for 2-1-2. (see fuel moto). OR ...... True duals like V&H dresser 2-2 and new muffs that have same baffle in each side.
