OK OK I'm awake. Sorry after step six, you know the part where you send my your money, Use a 1/2 spacer (available at home depot) between the bottom of the TP and the top of the mounting bar. Place a fender washer between the spacer and the bottom of the tour pack. I used a urathane spacer, but you can use a steel, aluminum, or nylon spacer. ZOOK
PS- Dont forget step six. If this it not completed it wont work!!
Why do you guys insist on throwing away money? I relocated my tour pack for free and this is how:
1. Remove tour pak.
2. Figure out how far back you want your pack to go.
3. Mark holes making sure to align the new holes with the factory holes. (if you want to go back one inch, mark one inch infront of the factory hole etc).
4. Drill new holes through the bottom of your tourpack (through the metal plate).
5. Re-install tourpack using factory hardwear. (I used fender washers to increase rigidity).
6. Send me your Kuryakyn money. ZOOK
exactly...i've relocated several of my friends tour pacs with just a drill and tape measure...the nuts on the bottom of the tp bracket are fixed(welded) on, so all ya gotta do it make some new holes and walla
My H-D tourpack (old 2 peice) is as far back as I can get it and have a heck of a gap between the rear of the passenger seat and the front of the travel trunk. I don't know why anyone would want to extend the thing back any further?? I didn't put any additional holes or change to any additional spacers. I just assembled it back in the last set of holes! I have a bit more than 2 inches between the back of the seat and the front of the curved plastic of the travel trunk. Thats lifting up that hanging back rest part to measure.
How far back does a exeneded tour pack go? Can someone measure the distance on an extended back? I'm interested in seeing how much farther back this extension goes.
Or is this just a TP with out a travel trunk install ya'll are doing?
If you choose to use a "store bought" item, contact Mr. George Anderson "doer of things" in Moline, IL ( 309-762-6291) and for a mere $130 he'll ship to you a precise made relocation device that makes Kurakyn's chromed bar look like a piece of crap. Mr. Anderson has done some serious engineering with his aluminum piece, had it powder coated, and polished the edges for a really fine looking adaptor. You can just undo your tour pack, tilt it forward upon it's front and out of the way (close and latch it first), install the relocator to the factory HD mounts, and re-mount the tour pak either 1.25" or 2.50 inches farther back than stock with the parts and instructions supplied. Looks good, works great, is very nicely built, and is affordable. No biggie to install, does good. I just installed one on my '07 Ultra. Momma is happy. I am happy. I might even get lucky now....PS: I also installed a set of now discontinued rear "crash bars" that have the downward slope to them to allow for clearance for the back of the passengers calves instead of them being pressed againstthe bars while riding. The original barscaused her great discomfort, even with the rear floor boards in the up most position. This is part HD# 49088-01 and your dealer can run a locator to find which dealerships say they still have them in stock. Then, all you have to do is call them to see if they still have them or if their computer was wrong. ( it happens) HD no longer sells these bars, you will have tofind a dealer with them in stock to buy them. This part number is forthe ones that allow you to keep the two bars around the saddle bags. If you do not have the bars, try part # 49807-01, which is still a good part number and your dealer can get these. $145. Total of $300 to make momma happy...cheap, cheap, cheap.....
