I am not a mechanic and am dumber than a rock, but since I always stay in Holiday Express motels, I think you have the basic problem of an intermittent loss of ground.

The bank angel sensor is combined with the turn signal and alarm (if equipped). When they go bad they are done. Not likely to be an intermittent problem. It either works or it does't.

Over to the side of the road, turn off ignition, let it sit for a minute, turn it back on and the bike starts. Finished riding it in to work, the left it at the dealers again. They say no codes showing, they will look at it again tomorrow. Bike is spending more time in the shop for ESP repairs than me sitting in the saddle!!! Not cool. Will see what they come up with this time.
They don't like to waste a tech's time to try and problem solve. (they're meant to do that) is a favorite quote. Do you take it to Deeleys?

Or a relay, either mechanical or solid state.

On your SPDT question, yes it stands for Single Pole Double Throw, but to explain in simple terms what this means. This is most commonly used in Relay (or electronic equivelant) speak

Firstly you split the description in to 2 parts :

Single Pole means that there is a single switch controlling a single circuit,

Double throw means that the switch can have 2 states. For example you may want something which is always ON but switches off when you push a button (ie energise the relay) or something which is always OFF but changes state when you push a button.

This is known as Normally Open (push button to switch it ON) or Normally Closed (push button to switch it OFF)

So, when you install a relay you need to make sure you connect to the correct contacts to get the result you are looking for

My '99 RG did it. No one ever figured it out? Loved that bike but finally sold it at great loss. Good Luck!

Did anyone ever figure this out?

Mine has a similar problem...although i am on a dyna. Every now and then, i will go to take off (typicallyits when i take off hard) and the bike dies on me and i grt a tIP code on thr console. I heard it was a tip sensor but i assume it may be the same sensor. I was told it may be the tsm but it is intermittent so it doesnt make sense that it only does it sometimes.

Default Bank Angle Sensor problems too

I am also having the same symptoms of the BAS malfuntion on my 2000 Fatboy, it happens at random times when riding and pisses me off in traffic where the engine just shuts down and when I pull over and turn off the ignition for a few seconds then turn it back on the bike restarts. I was looking through the manual and narrowed it down to this subject, this is why I am in this thread looking for answers. how much of a pita is it to get to the stupid thing? I will also be hunting for a remedy but until then I am hesitant on riding far. Thanks for any input guys. Rock on !!!!!!

I had the same problem on my 2000 RdKing. I thought that it was the BAS only to find out it was a faulty 40 amp fuse that was tripping when it got too hot. I replaced it with a new one from the local auto parts and all was good. The placement of the fuse is in a very confined and extremely hot area. The heat can cause a weak re-settable fuse to trip at the most inconvenient times. Like on I35 during rush hour. My fuse was located under the seat in front of the battery.
