I talked to the sales manager who sold me my Limited and he says the battery will last about a year which seems about what people are getting out of theirs. I would like one but I am still thinking about it.
I have the digital pushbutton hd one.. No problems so far. Got it to see what my oil temp was not really for checking the level but I guess it works for that too. I can lean over and do a check at the stop light. Hot days I have been mid 240's cooler days as low as 210. I have an oil cooler. If you don't have an oil cooler you are probably running pretty hot 260-270. Normal range should be 230. Just a note. Cooler the better.

Mine is two years old, still going strong (both the unit and the battery). Most of the negative comments are from people who had the old style (HD made a running change to the digital dipsticks, the new version is very different than the original problematic ones), or from people who never owned one and are just parroting negative things they read years ago. Or maybe HD only sends good ones to my dealer, who has sold a fair number of them without issues...
I just ordered one along with a USNavy transmision dipstick. I found his website http://www.jescustomaccents.com/main.sc Thanks Texas Fat Boy for pointing these out. I will post something when I get it.
Bought the HD digital dipstick/temp gauge & had it on my 08 EG for abt 4 months. Seemed to work real well for oil temps, but oil level reading was always erratic. And to remove it to check oil manually was a total PITA becuase it was too difficult to get in and out (tight). Finally put the stock one back in. jdhickm.
