If it is the S/E round filter it is not washable. I beleive the heavy breather is.

My HD stage 1 round filter is washable it does not take any oil though. I use the K&N washing solution and gently rinse it from inside out AND LEAVE IN THE SUN TO DRY.

You need to wash it. You can use a mild soap and air dry it. I recently purchased a second one so I can always have a clean one

stage one round model is washable. when i do my oil change, i take it outside and spray it good with simple green and water while i'm doing the oil change. then i hose it off from the inside out. shake it dry several times. i also use a hand held hair blow dryer sometimes as well. no oil however unlike the k&n.

That is not 100% correct. It depends on the year. My SE round filter is made by K&N and washable...It is marked with a bar and shield and HD part number on the filter, but came in K&N packaging.
