Tire Question - Front/Rear
I scored a couple of Michelin Macadam 50's for the rear of my Dyna for $65/ea at JakeWilson.com. Thought I'd take advantage of their bargains, free shipping, and no sales tax by picking up a front for the Dyna, a rear for the RKC, and a front for my bro's Ultra.
They list the Michelin Commander MU85B-16 (77H) for the rear at $65. For whatever reason, the MT90B-16 (72H) for the front is $87. The Internet BMW Riders website says the MU is a 140mm wide tire, and the MT is a 130mm. This CAS* is wondering if there is a [good] reason not to put a "rear" tire on the front, save $22, and get higher load rating and +3/8" width? Anyone out there done this?
Front & rear tires have major design differences, not just the size difference. The added load rating means the tire is less flexible which is more important in a front tire, plus the tread design is different. I'm sure somebody's probably done it, after all there's a lot of people running car tires on the back to save a few bucks, for me I'll go with what the tire companies design to work correctly, my life is worth more than a few bucks.
