Default Tire question

The scoot needed new tires, the rear was far worse than the front(damn holeshots).Anyway at the time I only installed just the rear tire,,& now it's time for the front.I didn't realize but the rear tire is a Dunlop & the front(which is not on yet) is an Avon tire.My bud told me it's not a good idea to mix & match so to speak, something to do with the different treads of each tire,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,any truth to this story.Or is my friend talking nonsense once again?

Your friend makes a valid point. Its probably best to run the same brand of tire in general, but its even more important not to run a radial on the rear and a bias ply on front (or is that the other way around?) Anyway...don't do that...whichever way its supposed to be.

I have Dunlop on the back and Metzler 880 on the front. I don't notice anything out of the ordinary.
What might I look for ?

Thanks

If they're both radials, both proper size, both properly inflated, brand isn't too important. The brand thing was an issue on the track but that was because we're riding on the very edge of the tires in addition to tremendous pressures and heat (track bikes end up with blue edges on the tires). Therefore, we want them to have profiles that were matched during the design/sizing. For casual riding like you'll be doing, no worries.
