I had the rails on the tops of the bags on my '05 EGC. I really liked the look, until I wanted to put on the short windshield, take off the tour-pak and put on the solo seat. Then they looked GAY at best. Of course that's MY opinion. If you're going to leave it dressed all the time, then they're not bad.
However, I will tell you that if you have a child that rides with you, they'll use them as grab rails. My step son did this and scratched up the tops of the bags significantly. Of course the bike was black and showed EVERYTHING.

I have the new Air Wing top rails with LEDs, easy to install and they help to protect the tops of the saddlebags. The extra lights don't hurt anything either.
