Default Ultra Top Box Removal

How difficult is it to remove the top box on an Ultra? In the market for a new bike and the wife likes the luxury of the Ultra, but will only be a part time rider. I on the other hand dig the looks of the Street Glide. Trying to sort out if the Ultra can carry the same style with the top box removed. Also wondering if cruise can easily be added to the SG. Thanks

I asked the same question before I got my Ultra........... Now I have no desire to take the Tour pak off. It's just too handy for putting stuff in. That and I like the lights, makes you real visible from the rear. It can be done though, just a few extra wires to deal with. I think the same quick release hardware that works with the EG Classic will work with the Ultra.

Buddy of mine just bought a black cherry '07 SG. Ordered the King Tour Pack. Set it up detachable. Put on the SG Sundowner seat. Added cruise. You end up with a clean, sporty version of the Ultra. Only way to go.

Do you have any pictures of that set-up and a rough idea of cost.

what I used:
53276-04 Detachable Two-Up Tour-Pak Rack $133.42
53804-06 Touring Detachable Docking Hardware Kit $43.12
53385-00 Layback License Plate Mounting Kit for Touring Models $41.56

what I stll need:
53803-06 SissyBar Detachable Docking Hardware Kit $32.86
also need a detachable sissy bar and a pad for a backrest, don't have those numbers handy though.

I still need those pieces to get a detachable passenger backrest on it to make it more comfertable for passengers.

I rode with my tourpack on for 4 or 5 months and started out wanting to take it off, the more I rode with it the more I realized how handy it really is... Seminolebagger is right about that... finally decided to do what I wanted originally and lose the trunk. got a used seat from classified section of forum from street glide and I LOVE it now.

its took a few hours to get all the docking hardware installed, but its doable with just a little time... instructions suck that come with it though.. best off just to study the pictures on the instructions a bit and then just pick out the pieces you need and do it (it comes with spacers, bolts for more than one application.

Now for my 2 cents if I may. If you want a Street Glide GET A STREET GLIDE. I wanted a street glide when I started looking also. decided to get the ultra and stip it down and kind of make a FLHX out of it... it aint never gonna happen... yes its possible but you gotta change to many things to make it happen... mine is looking better and I love it but its a long way from the FLHX look I want, fender trim, different lights up front, painted saddlebag latches, lose the chrome gaurds around saddle bags, lower it ( I may go with the draggin baggers kit IF people ever start getting them delivered...not likeing the way that deal is shaping up the way it keeps getting shipping put off.) list goes on and on to "really" achieve that FLHX look.
I really think if I had it to do over again I would go with the FLHX and add he king or chopped tour pack to it and be done... well closer to done anyway

I was in the same boat. I wanted an ultra but didn't want all the trim and pin stripes on it or I wanted a street glide with extra's(was really dreaming of a yellow se glide but couldn't spend that much). Rented an ultra one weekend and after turning it in my wife saw and sat on the street glide. Said she liked being closer to the ground and liked the solid color better. I couldn't believe it, so I told her we could add things to the street glide and that was it. Bought a street glide and have spots, lowers and a detatchable kit on it. The tour pack however took longer to come in. Its at the dealer now but I can't go and pick it up for a couple of weeks. I'll just need cruise and the rear speakers then to have my FLXHUI. Everything an ultra has except the cb which I don't want anyway and a cleaner look.
