Default Detachable sissybar problem

New to the HD forum - just bought a new '11 SG. I installed a detachable sissybar with 4 point docking system, however the bar is too upright for my wife to be comfortable. It pushes her too far forward into my back ( about 3 inches LESS room than on my old Heritage Springer). Anyway, I was thinking about attempting to bend the bar back a little bit, at the inward bend just above the sideplate weld. Has anyone attempted this? I don't know how "bendable" the sissybar metal is. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Have you tried riding without one. She might not even need it.

Thanks, but definately not an option for my sweetie! We bought the SG for more comfort on trips for our old bodies. Planning on getting a tourpak but wanted the option of stripping it off but still being comfy when not touring.

I remember reading on here once about someone else having the same issue. Bending it did not work for them. If I remember correctly it turned out they had the wrong one for their bike. Wrong year or something. I say double check and make damn sure you have the right one. Even if the dealer looked it up and gave it to you. Everyone makes mistakes…well not me…but everyone else.

from what i've read on this forum..once a "passenger" rides with a Tour-Pac, the sissy bar is a thing of the past......

FWIW...i have a 2010 SG with the backrest and my wife has never complained about room...like others said make sure you got the correct parts.....

Are you sure the sissy bar you have is for '09+ and not for an '07-'08? The mounting locations changed for the '09's and later. Maybe you can post a pic or two.

If you try to bend it, you will crack the chrome and possibly break a weld joint.

I tried the bending route, no good. The only option I found was changing the pad. It helped some. Here is the pad I changed it to:

If you get a Tour Pac you can get a extender kit from someone like George Anderson, so the passenger gets even more room.
