I have a brand new Road King Classic with stock everything. I would like a beefier sound, but don't want to adjust tuning and everything. Is there some nice sounding slip-on exhaust that will not require re-tuning?
I have V&H Oval slip-ons. I really like the sound, but after a long, long ride they can become tiring on the ears while wearing a half helmet. With a 3/4 helmet they're fine. This is a manufacturer I just discovered the other night. American Custom. http://www.americancustom.com/ They would make converting from loud to stock sounding in a matter of a few minutes. I don't know if they would require a retuning or not. I went with a stage 1 air cleaner and stage 1 tuning and I am not disappointed with the results.
Give it some time and miles , the stock system on my 09 keeps getting better and better.
Must be a burn-in thing or something , because they sound much better at 12,000 miles than they did when they were new.
I've heard a few sets of Rush mufflers locally with the smaller baffles that sounded pretty nice and not offensively loud.
Sound is pretty subjective , so listen and ask when you hear what you like.
A buddy of mine has a set of non catalyst screamin eagle mufflers with the replaceable end caps that sound really nice and not loud at all.
Most of the small diameter baffle type mufflers don't require special tuning when installed.

A classic for a classic: 3 1/2 slip-ons with 1.75 baffles and classic Harley fishtails. Not too loud, sound great, and I used them with a K&N filter with no changes to the tuning, as in a download or PCV. It runs sweeeeeettt..!
I have a PCV now, and its even better.
