Default 2001 Road King Classic slip-ons?

I just purchased my first Harley Davidson ... a 2001 Road King Classic injected ... And the only complaint that I have is that its not very loud. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of slip-ons to buy to make this thing louder ... Its currently got factory pipes on it ... And I normally like a more Throaty sound ... Any suggestions on slip-on's? something that wont break the bank in price?

Very subjective topic to seek an online forum-based opinion, and I stress "OPINION". Best thing to do for yourself is check out various exhaust at a dealership, bike night, rally, etc. and listen for yourself to base your decision. Even Youtube videos can be deceiving. Keep in mind exhaust tone will vary based on other mods also. Good luck with your decision.

I always like the supertrapp/Screaming Eagle SE. Deep but not too loud and one of the best performers according to some.

This post is exactly what i would have said, so we know this guy is very smart, rich and probably good-looking as well.

Take your time.

as far as physical fit any dresser/ touring series slip ons from 1995 + will fit.

some will suggest you hammer a hole or drill your mufflers, if so this waste of time should be done with the mufflers off the bike, otherwise you will likely crack the rear header at the Y joint.

learn from other's mistakes

IF your intake is still stock restricted, you can change exhaust with no tuning issues.
IF your intake is opened, you will gain about 10 horsepower, but will need to re-tune to compensate for increased flow into and out of the motor.

I use supertrapps, and can not only alter the sound loud/quiet is minutes, but tune to emphasize HP or torque curves. But that's what I like, you may have different wants, needs, budget

welcome to the forums- BTW using a "real" email address for a user name attracts spam- lots of it from all directions. i hope the gmail address you used is a "throw away"

What he said ^^^^ and a couple extra comments:

I've got RUSH pipes on my 2005 and find that they are a good combo of low rumble, increased sound, but not too intrusive at highway speed. I've had Samson Rolled Thunder Ovals which I loved at idle and around town, but too intrusive at highway speeds. Same with Screamin' Eagle SE II's that I have sitting on my shelf. I've seen and heard the Wild Pigs (slight blems available on Ebay) that sound good and won't break the bank.

Sound from your pipes is as individual as the person who rides it. The suggestion to walk around rallies or bike nights to test out the sound (and look) is a good one. Good luck.
