Yep, when I decided to get an Ultra my wife pushed for me to get a new one and I had some extra cash.
At that time people were asking (and getting?) 12-14k for 10-20 year old used bikes. Even now it's hard to find them in good condition for under $10k.
$8500 is a good price (many are asking that much for Softails and Dynas) and it sounds like the bike is in great condition.

Depends on what you are going to do with the bike. If long trips for many days or weeks is your choice than a new bike is the proper way to go. If you are using the bike for short trips, around town or just a few hundred miles on the weekend why spend the extra ten grand! Obviously, a new bike is great but remember, with new bike you are going spend money on upgrades, pipes, etc, etc. Nothing wrong with a good used bike depending on what you are going to do with it. Also, your insurance cost will be higher on a new bike. If the owner of the used bike has records of and you can confirm the bike has been taken care of, it is something to consider. Good luck!

There's plenty of people who have converted to a carb and removed the efi for about $350 bucks. Then your engine mods are not an issue. If you want engine mods with the efi, since it is a 1998, then you have the power commander available for your year. The PC3 is $300 and the dyno is another $300. $8500 compared to 17,500 is a no brainer for me. But I am an evo fan.

Is the 2010 used or new? If it's a demo and has never been sold then you will get the full 2 year warranty. If it's used the warranty started when it was originally sold. What options are on the bike? I bought my 2010 EGC in December with ABS and Cruise for $19,500 and it was brand new. The MSRP is $18,999 with no options and black. If it's used then I would find out what the original delivery date was.

The 2010 is a demo (400 miles ) it is a classic no extras no cd-lowers-intercom- one color - but new warrantee, not a bad deal at all. The 1998 is as new as a penny has no cd-lowers-intercom has a cassette. Touring mufflers and is lower then the FLH of today. Looking at both it is easy to see how much HD has taken away from the FLH and added plastic and MORE MONEY to purchase . But the miles are 26K I am thinkiing if I put on 5K - 7K miles I still have a like new bike with 38K miles after 2 years or if I like it that much I could trade it in in the spring and still get $8K for a trade in on a new FLHC ?

Does anyone know of that trade in on a blown EVO and the trade in for a new motor from HD for $2000 and $300 install? I have never heard of this program ? Has anyone?

All the 2010 stereos have CD players. Lift the door, the slot is in there.

Yes Harley has a reconditioning program. the dealer pulls out your engine and returns it to the factory where they completely rebuild it back to a brand new engine. Don't know how much they charge for this.
