Need input as I continue to make my 2009 Road King Classis better suited to my tastes(?). I am new to Harleys and fuel injection and at a total loss as to what changes drive remapping, and is there something out there that does the remap if and as needed.
Right now, I am getting ready to bolt on a Screaming Eagle Air Filter for increased flow and am trying to determine what slip ons to use and then there is the question of remapping.
I am not so much looking for loud pipes, but would like the deep rumble during acceleration so I know for sure that I am riding a Harley.
I just installed some B&E Max Performance 2 slip-ons(160 shipped) and a Wimmer Better Sucker intake and I'm not sure I need a remap. I'm gonna check my plugs in a week or two for fowling but so far no decel pop or anything weird to report..
Screaming eagle slip ons & air filter are designed (by the people who built your bike) to work perfectly with the Harley download. Did it to 2 road kings and my electra glide with 100% perfect results. No reason to try to reinvent the wheel.
call Fuel moto and get a Power commander 3 or 5 ..$250.00 i did the HD download and now know for sure i should've ponied up and called fuel moto...WOW what a difference...Night and day...2 year warranty and maps for life after more upgrades...
on my 07 the ecm does not handle pipes and intake or even pipes alone,it will run extremely hot without a tune.it is tolerable with just slip ons in cooler weather and no traffic, but still runs hotter and pings more than i would like, even when using xied"s went to a pcv fuelmoto map and all is good.
I also have an 09 RKC, I installed the SE/ac, V&H Power Duals, V&H Oval Slip On's and installed the PCV. I am using the maps from the Power Commander downloads with a few slight tweeks to the fuel input to eliminate a little bit of poping on decel. I am probably running about 95% efficient (jmo and I have no way to be exact except my own judgement on how it is running) but this is where I wanted to be without the expense of the dealer dyno and to be able to make my own adjustments when I do other upgrades.
I just put on a pair of Freedom Performance slip on's (love em) and I'm going to get the HD Stage I air cleaner kit put on.... My personal opinion is just bite the bullet and have it remapped and avoid any long term damage NOT doing it could potenially cause. Better to have it running correctly for 1 hour of labor...then play around with it.
