From all the searching I've done, the answer is no. There is talk at the Zumo forum and all of it says the NIM only works with the Road Tech HD units. The CVO forum has the same talk.
There is some talk about a firmware update but nobody has been able to get the non-HD units to work even after the update.
Looks to me like HD made sure their NIM is specific to their branded Garmin units. I'm guessing that it will just be a matter of time before someone figures out how to get around that.

Unlikely as sifularson has noted. I've seen the same "won't work with regular 660/665 Zumos" at cvoharley.com.
Apparently HD meant what it said in the NIM description:
Road Tech Navigation Interface Module
Available exclusively for Harley-DavidsonŽ Road Tech zumo Navigation Systems. The Navigation Interface Module will provide an integrated link between the fairing-mounted Advanced Audio Radio and a Road Tech zumo 660 or 665 GPS Navigator. When linked, the music volume will automatically drop when a GPS spoken command is detected, allowing you to hear the command through the radio speakers or the 7-pin communications-style headset. The module attaches directly to the radio, is concealed within the fairing, and does not require connection to the "AUX" input on the radio faceplate, allowing you to listen to a portable music device through your auxiliary input. Kit includes adaptor cable that permits stereo sound from the zuÂŻmo's internal MP3 player or XMŽ Radio.

OK, So my question to all you experts is I have the Road Tech Zumo 550 mounted to the fairing and connected behind the bat wing. I also have a cable from the Wumo to the AUX port on the readio (2010 FLTHK, Limited), and it all works, only the voice speaks while the music plays, and the volume from the XM radio is much lower through the AUX port on the radio. I wondered if the NIM will work and interface to the Zumo 550 as well to solve the speaking over the radio issue?
Nobody seem to know this answer, and I have asked my brother-in-law who is an engineer for HD, and he can't even find out...
Does anybody know for sure?

My thought would be no. Hd is pretty good at listing what items will work and not work for each application and they make no mention of the 550. There is also a certain software version level that the named units must have and it is my belief that that software upgrade provides the digital pre signal needed for the nim to mute the volume and inject the voice guidance to the speakers.

Totally Shocked and Disappointed with RT 665 Nav
I am totally shocked that I paid this much money for a nav system and installl...and all they did was cut a hole in my fairing and run an wire to an aux imput. I am taking it back to HD to try to make it right, but don't anticipate any luck. Even with my volume all the way up, I can barely here the satellite radio. And the promises of "full integration" with HD intercom system and radio are total BS. Only thing you can control is volume. HD equipment is expensive (some say rip-off), but this product is a joke. I could have spent $250 for the same effect. Just buy a nav/mp3 player and plug into aux input. I am $1450 into it. If anyone has any suggestions to help as I battle HD, let me know ASAP.
UPDATE: I did read it right and do it right...HD messed up. I did buy the HD Nav interface. Should NOT have to go through auxillary input. Taking it back to HD this week and telling them to install the thing properly!!!!

Ok for you guys that installed the NIM I have a question....
How do you insert the pins in the 35-way connector? Do you have to take the back off to insert them or should the just push in?

On the connector one part is the pin holder and the other is the locking wedge, if you insert a small screwdriver into the groove and twist it, it should unlock the wedge. There is no need to remove it, and it should not be removed only unlocked, then you can easily push in the pins until they click into place, and after all are in place look at the front side to make sure they are all the way pushed to the face. Now push the wedge lock back in place and plug it back with it's mate.
