Default 28 spoke (hole) wheels

Alright,

I need some cleaning tips / tricks / advice for the stock 28 spoke (hole) wheels on an '09 EGC (RK, UC, etc).

The "cleaning" upkeep on the used '09 EGC I purchased was pitiful at best. Luckily, a lot of the tins were replaced (from the previous wreck) and what wasn't replaced I got cleaned up like new. I was also able to remove all the spotting from the chrome using HD Chrome Polish along with steel wool.

The wheels (brushed aluminum, or whatever) are another story. They are really dirty, grimy, spotted, etc. I've tried the chrome polish with a rag, steel wool, nylon brush. No luck. I've tried Simple Green. I've tried Windex. I've tried No 7 polishing compound. NOTHING is cleaning these stupid things.

Anyone else ever had these wheels get stained and got them clean?

Perhaps I just need to save some scratch and either have them chromed or trade them in on a chromed set. Of course getting them cleaned would be better for multiple reasons.

Thanks for the input!

I have the same exact problem with my wheels. There are several threads on here complaining about the same thing. I have used aluminum polish and got them very clean but within a few days they are dirty again.
I looked into having mine chromed but it is going to be very expensive.
You can have them professionally polished which will also require a lot of maintenance but with that smooth finish after polishing it won't be as bad.

The best way to keep them clean with the least maintenance is to have them chrome plated. We have them in an exchange program where we send you the chrome wheels and you return your cores in the same box.

We also make some cool wheel spacers thats hide the rotor bolts and wheel bearings.

Check them out at http://www.willyshin.com

The best cleaning tip I can give you is to get a set of the Ultra Limited Wheels.

I use some some orange citrus cleaner and a soft brush. It gets them pretty clean and most of the brake dust cleans up. They aren't perfect or completly spotless but they look good from a couple of feet away.

Do you have the spacers for 09 and later touring? Don't see them on your site. If so what are h.d. forum members prices for them?
