Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
It ain't a matter of if its gonna happen, it's a matter of when.
I'm getting tired of waiting since I've had this bike for 13 months and I havn't joined the club yet. I have to thank this forum for occastional posts like this one to remind me to put the stand up and be careful at the pumps!
Harley police bikes have the jiffy stand safety switch, and won't start in gear with the stand down. They should look into putting that on all Harleys. That being said, one time on my '99 Road King, my Wife and I were going to dinner and I thought it would be nice for us to ride together,,,,, when she went to get on the bike, she put her left foot on the board, grabbed the sissy bar and pulled me to the ground, I was like WTF!!??? Then laughed my a$$ off. She was trying something new!!
The neighbor thought it was funny too.

No matter how careful you are, you will someday find a patch of sand, gravel, oil or slick paint under the foot you put down.
All I can say is I never dropped a bike before I owned a Harley....of course in the first month it went on its side (no damage of course). Its true what they say...happens to everyone
I'll tell you what else to look out for... Oil-Dry by the pumps! Pulled up to the gas pump last year, put my foot down and it slid on a pile of Oil-Dry! Over I went!!! Nothing hurt, except my feelings.
Oh, almost forgot. Watch out for getting brake cleaner on the bottoms of your boots... DON'T ask me how I know!!! Slick as ICE!!!
(President of the 'club' here) I hope that we all never meet up at the same gas station. It would be like a convention for people with no sense of balance.
I pulled up to the gas pump, was looking at a nice azz at the next pump and forgot to put the jiffy stand down. Cut the bike off, laid it over on the stand(I thought) and felt helpless as it went right over on the crash bars. bad thing was the young lady came over and helped me get the bike back up. can you say wish you were somewhere else?
