Default Air Shocks?

Okay as stated in my 1st post I am a near HD virgin. If you can be a near virgin that is.

Anyway, My 06 Street Glide as you all know has air shocks. They keep leaking down pressure. Rides and handles like crap when no pressure by the way.

I talked to my local HD parts guy looking for a rebuild kit, and he tells me that the shocks rarely go bad. I was thinking I may have to rebuild them. So I went out with a bottle of soap and water and spayed everything down after airing up the shocks.

Only bubbles I got were from the right side where the line goes into the shock. The little red plastic piece. The" 5/32 push in fitting" Item #4 at

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....e=13&A=408&B=8

I pushed the fitting in and out a few times and the leak seemed to stop or at least slow way down. It has held pressure for about 2 days now.

Now my questions:

1. What pressure should I run these at. I am just south of 200 lbs.

2. What pressure should I increase these too when two up. Wife is about 125 - 130 lbs.

3. This concerns/confuses me a bit. When releasing the pressure it seems like an extremely small bit of air to go from full pressure to no pressure. I mean like what I would think would be held in the lines only. Just checking the pressure looses 1-2 pounds each time.

Is this normal or should I be looking at something else?

Tom

Default Hmmmm

Having owned 29 of these beast the only one that ever gave me trouble was an 06 SE Ultra. If you have the fitting fixed ~ I would run mine about 20 or so solo and 24 or 25 two up. Pretty simple system ~ but the shocks do wear out over time ~ I replaced mine at about 80k and it was a night and day improvement. So I disagree with the tech ~ I think over time seals do not work as well and the shocks will deteriorate with normal use. Should be able to find a set on ebay ~ some guys remove them to go to the adjustable with the compressor.

Good Luck

Yeah, not a ton of air goes in there. Don't use a bicycle pump or air compressor to fill them.
Go get the HD hand pump made for this purpose. It will let you make micro 1 pound at a time adjustments - bleed air off/put air in.
It's easy...

Get the HD pump for sure! It makes adjusting the air pressure easy. My '10 Ultra looses a few pounds a month. A few shots with the HD pump brings them right back to where they need to be. I'm about your weight and run mine around 30 pounds. Pretty good compromise for when I'm solo - or have a passenger. YMMV....

check your manuel for pressure the 12 or 13 inch shocks take different amounts of air.your street glide holds more than the e glides.
