Default Max pressure in air shocks???

I have an '05 Ultra.

Manual says 35# maximum air pressure.

Does anybody run higher than that with heavy loads???

Here is a recent quote from a "wrench"

DON'T BE AFRAID TO RUN MORE AIR IN THE SHOCKS. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO EXPLODE. THERE ARE GUYS OUT THERE WITHSTREETGLIDES WITH 85 AND 90 LBS IN THEIR SHOCKS. ALL YOU LOOSE IS THE RIDE.
Can anybody substantiate that claim???

THANKS

I don't believe I would trust that statement. I do know you can blow the air bladder on the shock from too much pressure. I have never needed more than 25# two up and gear. bike rides and handles just fine in turns even uneven (roller) curves.

I know that the SG and RG shocks have higher max pressures than the Ultra's according to my '07 Ultra Owner's Manual. Max for the Ultra's is 35#. I never go more than 15-20# with a passenger and load. I use the H-D hand pump. It gives the pressure reading and won't over inflate the shocks.

As long as we're talking about air shocks...I'll go to 15 lbs, riding solo and notice in a day or two I'm at 5 lbs. do these things bleed down that often for you guys?

My '03 RKC used to do that, but not so fast. On that one, I have the distinct feeling that I may have over-pressurized them early on, before I got the hand pump. I had used a quick shot from a service station air supply......[X(]

However, it's a good idea to check the air connections.......the tubing fittings. If you have a hand pump, pump it up to about 20# and make up some soapy water (dish detergent and water) in a squirt bottle. Squirt every connection, the air inflation valve, the tubing fittings, etc......If you see bubbles, there's your leak. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I will do that. BTW, I never actually checked it until a few weeks ago when I bought the hand pump. It was at 5 lbs then after nearly two years of neglect.

Mine use to lose air pressure and had to get air every week until I found out that I had a bad valve stem. I replaced it and since then I rode over 7 months and did not lose any air yet.
